Meet Matthan
Matthan Hillberg has twenty years of experience as a guitarist and provides instruction for beginner and intermediate students on both acoustic and electric guitar. Drawing from his background as a worship pastor and music leader, he offers structured lessons that build foundational skills, support musical growth, and foster confidence in young learners. His teaching approach is student centered and adaptable to various learning styles, making him a strong fit for students of any age.

(Music Lessons)
What ages do you teach?
We currently teach students ages 7 and up (2nd grade and up). Younger students may be accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on readiness, focus, and instrument size.
What skill levels do you work with?
All levels. Complete beginners to intermediate players. Whether your child has never picked up a guitar or already knows basic chords, we meet them exactly where they are.
Do we need our own guitar?
Yes. Students need access to a guitar for practice.

If you’re not sure what to buy, we offer recommendations based on age, hand size, and skill level.
Where do lessons take place?
In person lessons will take place at Laurelwood Court (exact address will be provided once booking takes place).
How long are lessons?
We offer:

30-minute lessons — best for beginners

45-minute lessons — ideal for students with some experience

60-minute lessons — recommended for committed or advanced learners
How much do lessons cost?
30 min: $60 (Charter students only option)
45 min: $80
60 min: $100
Are guitar lessons charter-friendly?
Yes! Parents can submit through your charter (Heartland Charter School) once approved through their charter school, we will receive your purchase order and begin scheduling. You can find us under "Anchored Academics 1-1 guitar instruction" in the Heartland ordering catalog.
What is your cancellation policy?
Lessons must be canceled within 24 hours to avoid being charged.
Missed lessons without notice are non-refundable.
We do our best to reschedule when possible.
How do payments work?
